Kieran Sullivan
BANBURY United captain Kieran Sullivan's commitment to the club has sometimes encroached upon his family life – but that is something they have learned to accept.

Wife Denise has nominated the 36-year-old defender, who has made more than 500 appearances for the Puritans.

She says he has a commitment to the club which is second to none. “I have been married to Kieran for almost 13 years and have always had to make sure that plans do not interfere with his football,” she said.

“Our wedding had to be planned outside of the football season. If family holidays are planned during the season we have to be prepared for the fact he will always travel back from wherever we are holidaying to play.”

Manager Kevin Brock paid tribute to Mr Sullivan: “He's been very consistent. His attitude is always spot on and that's a good impression for the young players.”

Mr Sullivan made his debut for United in 1985 and had spells at several clubs before returning to Banbury five seasons ago, helping to establish the club as a top ten Southern League Premier Division team.

He has won many awards and medals during his time at the club and was last season's player of the year and players' player of the year.

Matthew Bull
MATTHEW Bull has been recognised for a successful captaincy of Banbury Hockey Club.

He took over the men's first team in the 2003/04 season and, in his first campaign, were victorious in the England Hockey Trophy. During this season Banbury also won the Oxfordshire Cup outdoors and indoors, as well as the County Summer League crown.

The side have gone from strength to strength this year earned promotion to the South League for the first time in the club's history.

Mr Bull has also skippered the side to their second England Hockey Trophy final in three years.

Fellow Banbury player Craig Irvine, who nominated his team-mate for the award, said: “A lot of the success of the men's first team has to go down to our captain Matthew Bull, who was the team and the league's top goal scorer. He is a short corner specialist and the driving force behind the side.”

Mr Bull is also the head coach of the ladies' first team, who have gained promotion this season and they, like the men, also got through to a national final.

“Matthew is a good club man and is heavily involved in gaining new sponsorship from national and local businesses,” added Mr Irvine.

Mr Bull was honoured and surprised to be nominated for the award.

He said: “There are lots of people all working extremely hard at the club and I am lucky enough to be a part of it and to captain the first team.
